Nashville Riverfront Concept Plan
On October 6, 2005, Mayor Bill Purcell announced a collaboration between the Metro Nashville Parks and Recreation Department and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to produce a Nashville Riverfront Concept Plan. The plan was to build on the Plan of Nashville principles and emphasize the importance of the river as an environmental, recreational and economic development asset. Mayor Purcell appointed a 23-member Steering Committee to guide the planning and asked the Nashville Civic Design Center to facilitate the committee’s work and a public input process that would ensure Nashvillians had ample opportunity to share their ideas about the riverfront and make recommendations about how it could transformed.
